Dr. Sory Toalé Sibri is a physician based in Burkina Faso specializing in epidemiology and biostatistics. He has 10 years of professional practice in public health, including epidemiology, infection prevention and control, program planning and evaluation, health promotion, quality management of health services, and pharmacovigilance of vaccines. He specifically wanted to pursue a career in public health and epidemiology given that it is a cross-cutting field with implications at both the hospital/clinician level and at the administrative and operational level.

Throughout 2020, he participated in COVID-19 pandemic response efforts, working with the World Health Organization (WHO) Country Office as a National Infection Prevention and Control Officer. Now, Dr. Sory works as a Surveillance Technical Advisor supporting CDC. His primary focus is on a community-based epidemiological surveillance project in two regions of Burkina Faso where both state and non-state armed groups are prevalent. Specifically, the project aims to understand health risks associated with unusual public health events. The project is implemented by the Burkinabe Red Cross in collaboration with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and the Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene (MSHP).
Dr. Sory’s current role is to ensure the project is implemented according to the submission protocol. Additionally, he works in the field to orchestrate volunteer and community-based health worker capacity building as well as monitor the quality of early warning data sent by volunteers to the health system via their field supervisor. As the program progresses, Dr. Sory hopes to continue earning the trust of local collaborators in the field and strengthening his relationships with IG and the CDC.
