Border Health in the MENA Region

DGMH Master Training Program for the MENA Region

Integral Global Health worked with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)’s Division of Global Migration and Health (DGMH) Border Health Team to facilitate a two-week training for point-of-entry staff from the Middle East & North Africa (MENA) region. The training, hosted July 2024 in Tunis, Tunisia included participants from Tunisia, Oman, Sudan, Iraq, Pakistan and Libya.

Participants learned proper techniques for donning and doffing personal protective equipment (PPE) and temperature tracking, best practices for ill traveler risk assessments, and how to create and implement Public Health Emergency Response Plans and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Participants ended the two weeks by practicing training their peers on key point-of-entry competencies and presenting on their plans for reproducing their training for health and non-health point-of-entry staff in their home countries.

These trainings help ensure the security of borders from public health threats around the globe and are a crucial component of the Joint External Evaluation (JEE) and Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA). IGH is excited to witness the outputs of these cascade trainings and looks forward to the expansion of knowledge on these topics.
